PADI Instructor
John "Toby" Nelson
Growing up in southeast Portland and Rainer, the outdoors was a way of life, now shared with my wife and four cats in Milwaukie. From backcountry hiking and PCT adventures to scuba diving, my journey took a pivotal turn during a 2021 Cozumel trip. Despite my wife discovering diving wasn't for her, I certified and was mesmerized by the underwater world. This experience sparked a desire for more, leading me to volunteer at the Oregon Zoo's dive program and pursue the PADI PRO path, becoming a Divemaster in 2023 and an Instructor in September 2024. With a background including Army service, Hood2Coast races, and a career as a computer systems engineer, my passion for diving has taken me to diverse locations like Bali, Bonaire, and the Pacific Northwest, and I'm now excited to share the wonders of the underwater realm as a certified instructor.
